Artist's Sketch of the Dozier Window

March 31, 2008

Dear Class of '56,

In February our class representatives met in Bartow and approved the Dozier Commemorative Window design and glass. Marni Johnson, stained glass artist at Southern Art Glass in Lakeland, has begun working on the window. [A preliminary sketch is shown above.]

The 3'x6' window will be placed over the front orange doors of the administration building. There will be a beveled clear glass centerpiece of the "Lamp of Learning" with beveled scrolls in each off the corners. The background will be amber with multi-colored borders framing the piece. The Dozier's names will be under the lamp and read as you approach the window. Both the design and glass will compliment the early 1900's historic building.

Mr. Dozier served 17 years as Area Supervising Principal after 13 years as High School Principal. Mrs. Dozier taught for 43 years in Bartow. They are educational icons of Summerlin Institute and Bartow High School. In commemorating the Doziers, we salute all our dedicated teachers throughout the years.

As Mary Jean e-mailed earlier, we have almost met the $5,000.00 goal for the window project. If you have intended to send your contribution, now would be a good time. If you want a tax deduction, make the check payable to Polk Education Foundation designated to the Dozier Project. Send your designated donation to Mike Marchman at 1625 Wallace Ave, Bartow, Florida 33830. Although the Class of '56 is sponsoring this project, we welcome donations from other classes and friends. Any amount will be appreciated. If you have already contributed, we thank you.

The window will be completed by the fall. Our tentative plan is to have the dedication on Saturday, October 18th, so save the date. Invitations will be sent prior to the event. We wish you a happy spring and summer.

Sincerely,
